Canvas - How do I see student activity and participation in a course?

There are a couple of different areas in Canvas that can help check student's activity and participation in a course.

People tab

Students that are enrolled through the WINGS sync will be active in the Canvas course. When they drop a course, the enrollment will show inactive.
The people page also shows the last time the student was active in the course (date and time) along with the total course activity.

From the people page, you can also navigate to the course access report for an individual user. Next to the student's name select the three vertical dots and User Details. From that page select Access Report.

New Analytics

New Analytics can be found in two places in Canvas. It's always located in the top right of the course homepage and can be enabled in the course navigation. In New Analytics you can see students course grades, weekly online activity, and students participation and page views.

How to add to Course Navigation

  1. Go into your course and select Settings
  2. Select the Navigation tab.
  3. The top list is the tools already enabled in your course, the bottom is tools available to be enabled.
  4. Drag the tool from the bottom list to the top and select save.

24/7/365 Canvas Support is available through the help icon in Canvas, by calling the phone support for faculty, staff and students or email us directly at canvas@uwlax.edu
