macOS - Upgrading

How to upgrade to the latest macOS

Prompted by IT

(if not prompted, see Manually Install the Upgrade at the end of this article)

Backup your files to OneDrive or to an external drive (see https://kb.uwlax.edu/search.php?q=backup)

Read the message you receive and follow the steps accordingly.

Option 1: Intel Processor

Prompt if running Intel Processor

The install should start automatically.

Option 2: Apple Processor

Prompt if running Apple Processor

Continue with the following steps if Option 2: Apple Processor

Open Admin By Request

Complete then OK

Admin By Request Approval

Click Submit

When prompted, Continue

The install should then begin and provide an estimate of time and restart accordingly.

If the following message appears, Quit and follow the steps below

Manually Install the Upgrade

Backup your files to OneDrive or to an external drive (see https://kb.uwlax.edu/search.php?q=backup)

Start a new Admin By Request session and request admin rights.

Open System Preferences > Software Update

Upgrade Now

Upgrade

Agree

Approve

Approve

An estimate of time will be provided.

Time Remaining

Follow any additional onscreen prompts.
