Okta - Authenticator Removal Before Getting a New Phone

Getting a new phone? This guide shows you how to safely remove your UW account from Okta Verify on your old device before you sell, trade, or recycle it.

Removing Okta from Your Old Phone

Option 1: Remove Using Your Phone

  1. Open the Okta Verify app on your old phone
  2. Tap the arrow icon on the right side next to your UW-La Crosse account

  3. Scroll down and tap Delete Account

Option 2: Remove Using a Web Browser

  1. Go to myapps.uwlax.edu (opens in new tab)
  2. Sign in with your:
    • UW username (NetID) or email address
    • Password
  3. Approve the login request on your working device

  4. In the upper right corner, click your name, then select Settings

  5. Click Remove next to your old phone

  6. If you see any fingerprint or face recognition options (like Windows Hello or MacBook Touch ID), you can remove those too. You can set them up again later if needed.
  7. Click Sign Out when finished
