Okta - Authenticator Removal Before Getting a New Phone

Getting a new phone? This guide shows you how to safely remove your UW account from Okta Verify on your old device before you sell, trade, or recycle it.

Important: Set up at least one backup device before removing your old phone. If you only have one device registered and remove it, you will not be able to log in to your UW account and will need to contact the Help Desk for assistance.

Note: When switching to a new phone, the Okta Verify app may transfer but your UW account connection will be removed. For security, remove your UW account from your old phone before selling, trading, or recycling it.

Option 1: Remove Using Your Phone

  1. Open the Okta Verify app on your old phone.
  2. Tap the arrow icon on the right side next to your UW-La Crosse account.
