Okta - Authenticator Removal Before Getting a New Phone
Getting a new phone? This guide shows you how to safely remove your UW account from Okta Verify on your old device before you sell, trade, or recycle it.
Removing Okta from Your Old Phone
Before You Start - Important!
Set up at least one backup device first. If you only have one device registered and remove it, you won't be able to log in to your UW account. You'll need to contact the Help Desk for assistance.
When switching to a new phone: The Okta Verify app may transfer to your new phone, but your UW account connection will be removed. For security, you should remove your UW account from your old phone before selling, trading, or recycling it.
Option 1: Remove Using Your Phone
- Open the Okta Verify app on your old phone
- Tap the arrow icon on the right side next to your UW-La Crosse account

- Scroll down and tap Delete Account

Option 2: Remove Using a Web Browser
- Go to myapps.uwlax.edu (opens in new tab)
- Sign in with your:
- UW username (NetID) or email address
- Password
- Approve the login request on your working device

- In the upper right corner, click your name, then select Settings

- Click Remove next to your old phone

- If you see any fingerprint or face recognition options (like Windows Hello or MacBook Touch ID), you can remove those too. You can set them up again later if needed.
- Click Sign Out when finished
