Windows 11 — Check if Your Computer Can Be Upgraded

Step-by-step instructions for checking whether a Windows 10 computer is eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 11 using Windows Update settings.

Follow these steps to check whether your Windows 10 computer is eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 11.

  1. Click the Start button in the lower-left corner of your screen.

  2. Click the Settings (gear) icon in the Start menu.

  3. Click Update & Security.

  4. In the main window, look for a Download and install button for Windows 11. If the button appears, your computer is eligible for the upgrade.

Don't see the button? If no Windows 11 upgrade option appears, your computer's hardware does not meet Microsoft's minimum requirements for Windows 11. Contact your ITS Client Services Representative to discuss replacement options.
