Distance Education & Video Conferencing

UW-La Crosse supports distance learning through Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and six dedicated video conferencing classrooms on campus. Faculty and staff can request virtual meeting rooms, record sessions to Canvas via Kaltura, and contact the Eagle Help Desk for setup assistance.

UW-La Crosse supports distance learning through a range of video conferencing tools and dedicated classroom spaces. Contact the Eagle Help Desk with any questions.

Classroom Video Conferencing

Six campus spaces are designed for high-quality video conferencing:

  • Wing Technology Center, rooms 31, 102, and 104
  • Centennial Hall, rooms 1404 and 3212
  • Murphy Library, room 150

Each space includes multiple cameras, dual displays for participants and shared content, and student microphones. These rooms are used for recording presentations, collaborating with classes at other institutions, and hosting remote guest speakers. Faculty and staff can reserve these spaces by contacting the Eagle Help Desk.

Desktop Video Conferencing

UWL supports Microsoft Teams and Zoom as its standard desktop video conferencing tools, available to all faculty and staff.

Both tools support virtual meetings, screen sharing, recording, and document collaboration. Microsoft Teams is available through your Microsoft 365 account (opens in new tab). Zoom is available through the UWL Zoom portal.

For help getting started, contact the Eagle Help Desk.

Virtual Meeting Rooms

Faculty and staff can request a personal virtual meeting room — a persistent space others can join by dialing in with a room number. Virtual meeting rooms are commonly used for online office hours, student discussions, and departmental meetings. Contact the Eagle Help Desk to request a room.

Recording

Lectures and meetings can be recorded in both Teams and Zoom. Recordings can be saved to the cloud or downloaded and uploaded to Kaltura (Canvas media library) for student access. For classroom lecture recording specifically, see the Classroom Lecture Capture KB article.
