Mac Keychains - Constant Prompts and How to Stop Them

How to stop the keychain prompts on a Mac.

*Note for UWL-owned Macs: Please ensure to be connected to the UWL network via an Ethernet cable in order this to successfully work. Additionally, you may want to connect to the VPN if you are working off-campus: https://kb.uwlax.edu/internal/page.php?id=100596. 
*Another note for UWL-owned Macs for next time: This issue occurs after resetting your UWL password without using Enterprise Connect and also while not on our network. In the future, make sure to reset your password from your Mac by using Enterprise Connect and while connected to our network. 

Connect to Enterprise Connect: UWL-Owned Mac Only

    • *Note: You will need to be connected to our network either via WiFi, Ethernet or with the VPN (off-campus option) in order to connect to Enterprise Connect. 

Delete Keychains Application: UWL-Owned Mac Only
  1. Locate the pre-installed application on your UWL-owned Mac called Delete Keychains (it looks like a set of keys). If you do not have this application already on your UWL-owned Mac, then please download it from Self Service. 
  2. Click on the application to open it. Then a prompt will appear that will say. "Please save open files then quit all application," and then select Continue in order for your Mac to restart. 
  3. After the restart, then enter in your NetID and current password. 
  4. Now, you will have to reconnect to the WiFi and Enterprise Connect with your current UWL credentials. 


Alternative Ways of Deleting Keychains on Macs: 

  1. Delete Keychains Folder - Manual 
    1. Open finder then click Go. Press the Option key on your keyboard and choose Library.
    2. Open the Keychains folder and delete the folder with numbers and letters in its name.
    3. Restart the computer.
  2. Delete a Keychain in Keychain Access
