Kaltura (Canvas) - Uploading Videos
Kaltura is the video portal for University of Wisconsin System institutions. Instructors, students, and staff can use it to easily upload, store, stream, and share (or restrict) videos in Canvas.
Introduction
There are two steps to using Kaltura is to add videos to your Kaltura My Media account. First you need to access your MyMedia account then upload the video.
Step 1: Access My Media via your Canvas Account
There are two options for accessing your MyMedia Account, both methods function in the exact same way.
Option 1: My Media Via your Account
- Open Canvas and click your Account icon on the left side navigation. Choose MyMedia from the links provided..

Option 2: MyMedia via the Rich Content Editor
Go to any Canvas Page, Assignment, Discussion, etc, which allows you to edit text.
- Click Edit or Reply to open the text editing view.
- In the Rich Content Editor, click the asterisk-shaped My Media button (or click the electrical plug-shaped Apps icon > View All > My Media)

Step 2: Upload your Video
- On the My Media page, go to Add New > Media Upload.

- On the Upload Media page, click on Choose a file to upload, then browse your computer to select a video file.

Note: Kaltura can process most major video file types and formats. Upload time will depend on bandwidth and file size. - Once your video has finished uploading, fill out the metadata for your video:
- Name
- Description
- Tags
- Publishing status

- Click Save.
Now your video is in Kaltura in Canvas! Use External Tools > My Media (from Part B, above) to embed your video in any Canvas Page, Assignment, Discussion, etc, which allows you to edit text.
