Canvas - How do students download Respondus LockDown Browser for quizzes?
Instructors have a link in Canvas to set up the Respondus LockDown Browser for quizzes. Students need to download the Respondus Browser by navigating to the quiz it's added to and launching the quiz; they will then be prompted to download. It's recommended that instructors have a practice quiz set up for students to get used to using Respondus Lockdown Browser before taking a high-stakes exam/quiz.
Need access to a practice quiz?
If your instructor does not have a practice quiz set up and you want to download the browser ahead of time, self-enroll in this Canvas Student Orientation course. At the bottom of the home page is a module with the practice quiz that will take you through the steps to download, or re-download if you need to update the browser. (Respondus frequently updates, so make sure to update at least once a year, if not every semester).
**Students living on campus, make sure you are connected to the UWL Eagle WiFi and not the Guest WiFi.**
How to download Respondus LockDown Browser for Mac or PC
- Log into Canvas and navigate to the quiz you will need to use this for (it will say in the name -Requires Respondus LockDown Browser)
- Select Take the Quiz
Option 1 (Classic Quiz):
- You will be directed to Download Respondus LockDown Browser from the link provided.
- This will take you to the download page, which should default to your device. If not you can switch between Windows and Mac in the left column.
- Then select Install Now.
- Complete the process of downloading the browser.
- Once finished, you will navigate to your desktop to find Respondus LockDown Browser and take the quiz.
Option 2 (New Quiz):
- You will be taken to a page that says Assessment Loading. A pop-up box should also appear after a bit with a button prompting you to Open Lockdown Browser. If this does not happen there are a few things you can try.
- Refreshing the page.
- Make sure your browser is not blocking pop-ups.
- After this screen, follow the next screen steps to continue until you can take the quiz in the Lockdown browser.
How to add Respondus Lockdown Browser Extension for Chromebooks
- Log into Canvas and navigate to the quiz you will need to use this for (it will say in the name Requires Respondus LockDown Browser)
- Select Take the Quiz
- You will be directed to the Chrome web store to add the Lockdown Browser Extension. Students can not search for the app directly in the web store. They have to go through the link in Canvas.
- After the extension has been added, you may need to close all your tabs and go back into the quiz to successfully take it.
