Information Technology Services (ITS) has been made aware of a targeted phishing attack. Scammers are impersonating supervisors and executives, sending emails marked "Urgent follow up" or similar language. If you respond they will request you purchase gift cards or other financial transactions.
Red Flags to Watch For:
- Urgent requests from supervisors via email (especially unusual timing)
- Requests to purchase gift cards, wire transfers, or payments
- Pressure to act quickly without verification
- Slight variations in email addresses or unusual language
Your Defense Strategy:
✅ ALWAYS verify any financial request through a separate communication channel
✅ Call the person directly using a known phone number (not from the email)
✅ When in doubt, don't respond - forward suspicious emails to IT instead
