ITS ALERT - Phishing Text Messages Targeting Campus Community

Multiple reports have been received from students, faculty, and staff who have received suspicious text messages attempting to obtain Okta codes via text message.

We are writing to alert you about an active phishing text message campaign currently targeting members of our campus. Multiple reports have been received from students, faculty, and staff who have received suspicious text messages attempting to obtain Okta codes via text message.
What We Know:
These fraudulent text messages may claim to be from the university, IT Help Desk. They often create a sense of urgency and may:
  • Request that you verify your account information
  • Claim your account will be suspended or deleted
  • Ask for your username and password
What You Should Do:
  • DO NOT click on links in unexpected text messages
  • DO NOT provide Okta codes via text
  • DO NOT provide personal information, passwords, or financial details via text
  • DELETE suspicious messages immediately
  • VERIFY by contacting the department directly through official channels listed on the university website
  • REPORT suspicious texts to ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@uwlax.edu 
Remember: The university will never ask you to provide sensitive information via text message or email.
