Word/Excel/Powerpoint Auto-recovery file location for MacOS - corrupt file

A document for finding the Office auto-recovery document location, where you can locate auto-recover file data & possibly recover corrupt auto-saved files

In the MacOS Finder, click the menu Go -> Go to Folder.

Copy & Paste one of the below paths into the field, depending on your Office program:

Excel:

~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Excel/Data/Library/Application Support/Microsoft

Powerpoint:

~/Library/Containers/com.Microsoft.Powerpoint/Data/Library/Preferences/AutoRecovery

Word:

~/Library/Containers/com.Microsoft/Data/Library/Preferences/AutoRecovery

It's possible that the path will be: ~/Library/Containers/Microsoft Word, ~/Library/Containers/Microsoft Excel, ~/Library/Containers/Microsoft Powerpoint..  and inside there, look inside any Desktop/Library/Preferences/ folder, and you'll find the temp folder in there

Click Go to go to that folder.  In there will be the autorecovery files.  Right-click on the file you need, and Open With -> Textedit.  That should open up the MacOS Textedit program, and have as much non-corrupted data it can find from that file.  Go under the menu File -> Save As, and save this file to another location, or copy the contents and paste into another Word file and save.

ADDITIONAL NOTE:

If the user uses the web version of the office program, and a tab was closed, or version deleted, check the web-based version of Onedrive, and check in the recycle bin - there could be a cached/temp version that was saved there, and can be restored
