Virtual Desktop - How to set up

This is the outline of how to get started using virtual desktop at UWL

How do I get started?

Go to https://virtual.uwlax.edu using your favorite Web browser.
You will be present 2 options, to either install the VMware Horizon Client or use the VMware Horizon HTML Access. Generally the VMware Horizon HTML Access would be recommended, there is no software client installation. 

REMEMBER: The virtual desktop is non-persistent meaning that when you log off, anything that you saved to the desktop is lost.

You must save all of your work to either your U Drive, Google Drive or a USB Flash Drive.

VMware Horizon HTML Access

  1. Select the VMware Horizon HTML Access
  2. Sign in using your NetID and password.
  3. Connect to the General Desktop and begin using it.

Install VMware Horizon Client

  1. Select the Install VMware Horizon Client option
  2. Depending on the device you are using you will be directed to download the VMware Horizon View Client software.
    1. Windows.
    2. Macintosh.
    3. Apple iOS (iPad, iPhone, iTouch) -  iOS App Store
    4. Android smartphone or tablet - Google Play
  3. Install the VMware Horizon View Client software or app.
  4. Add virtual.uwlax.edu as the default connection server.
  5. Finalize the Client software installation.
  6. Log into the virtual desktop by launching the VMware Horizon View Client software or app on your device.
  7. Sign in using your NetID and password.
  8. Connect to the General Desktop and begin using it.
