Akindi - Exporting Grades from Akindi and Importing them into D2L

Walkthrough of the steps for exporting grades from an assessment in Akindi to a CSV file, making the necessary adjustments to import the CSV into D2L.

1. Instead of clicking 'Send Grades to Canvas', in the Results page of an assessment in Akindi, click Actions > Download CSV (Figure 1), choose ‘Sort by… Student Name’ and click Download.

2. In D2L, go to Grades > Export (Figure 2)

a. Choose username for the Key Field (Figure 3)
b. Select Points Grade (Figure 3)
c. Select the Grade Item for the quiz/exam if already created in D2L, otherwise, deselect all (Figure 3)
d. Click Export to CSV (Figure 3) and Click the link to download the file (Figure 4).

3. Open the exported CSV (example output: Figure 5)

a. Select Column A (Username), Click Find & Select > Replace... from the Excel ribbon
b. In the Find what: box enter # and leave Replace with: empty. Click Replace All. This will remove the #'s that prepend each username. Click close on the Find and Replace window.
c. With Column A (Username) still selected, Click Sort & Filter > Custom Sort… from the Excel ribbon
d. In the Sort window, Check the box ‘My data has headers’, verify that Sort by Username, Sort On Values, and Order A to Z is selected, and click OK.
e. Add a new column between A and B if no quiz was selected during the export and add a header to the new column with the name of the quiz
f. Copy the scores from the Akindi CSV Mark (out of #) column (Figure 6) to the D2L CSV Points Grade column for each student. Save the D2L CSV. Click yes if prompted to keep using the CSV format.

Akindi grades ready to upload to Canvas will have the following format (Figure 7):
Column A – Header = Username –
then the usernames generated by D2L
Column B – Header = The name of the Assignment you want the grades assigned to.
* The name can either be an existing assignment or a new name.
This column will contain the grades.
Column C – Header = End-of-Line Indicator
This column will contain a “#” on each line.

In D2L, go to Grades > Import
Browse for the file created in step 4 and Click Continue
