Includes steps for faculty and staff to sync their new password with a UWL-managed computer after an off-campus reset.
Reset Your Password
- Open a private or incognito browser window:
- Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N (Windows) or Command + Shift + N (Mac)
- Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P (Windows) or Command + Shift + P (Mac)
- Safari: Command + Shift + N
- Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N (Windows) or Command + Shift + N (Mac)
- Enter your UW email address or NetID and click Next.

- Click Forgot Password.

- Click Send Me an Email. A reset code will be sent to your UW email address and any alternate email you have added to Okta.
Need to add an alternate email first? See Add a Secondary Email Address (opens in new tab). - Choose how to receive your verification code:
- Option A: Check your UW or alternate email inbox for the reset code. Check your junk folder if you don't see it.
- Option B: Click Enter a Verification Code Instead to display the code directly in your browser.

- Enter the verification code.

- Complete the Okta multi-factor authentication (MFA) step.

- Create your new password. Your password must meet the following requirements (full password requirements (opens in new tab)):
- Be at least 14 characters long
- Include uppercase and lowercase letters
- Include at least one number
- Include at least one special character (!@#$%^&*)
- Not contain your NetID or name
Note: If you are off-campus, you may see an "Unauthorized" page after completing this step. This is normal — close the browser window and log in as usual with your new password.
For Faculty and Staff Off-Campus
After resetting your password, sync it with your UWL-managed computer:
- Connect to the UWL VPN. See VPN — Install and Connect (opens in new tab) for setup instructions.
- Lock your screen:
- Mac: Apple Menu → Lock Screen
- PC: Ctrl + Alt + Del → Lock
- Unlock your screen using your new password.
