What is Okta?

Okta is UW La Crosse's single sign-on system. One login gives you access to all your applications - Wings, Canvas, Office 365, and more.

How to Sign In

  1. Go to Okta: Visit UWL MyApps Page
  2. Enter your credentials:
    • Username: Your UW La Crosse email (e.g., asmith@uwlax.edu) or NetID (e.g., asmith)
    • Password: Your UW La Crosse password
  3. Complete multi-factor authentication (MFA): Approve the push notification on your phone or enter a code from your authenticator app
  4. Access your apps: Click any application icon to launch it

First time signing in? You'll be prompted to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) for added security. Follow the on-screen prompts to register your device.

Security Tip: If you're on a shared or public computer, always use an incognito/private browsing window and completely close the browser when finished.

Why can't I access my account?

Common reasons and solutions:

  • Account locked: After multiple failed login attempts, your account may be temporarily locked. Wait 30 minutes or contact the Help Desk
  • New student/employee: Your account may not be activated yet. Contact the Help Desk
  • Browser issues: Clear your browser cache and cookies, or try an incognito/private window

Troubleshooting

I'm getting an error message when I try to sign in

Common errors:

  • "Unable to sign in": Check that you're using your full UW La Crosse email address or NetID
  • "Your credentials could not be verified": Your password may be incorrect. Try resetting it
  • "Account locked": Wait 30 minutes or contact the Help Desk

My security image isn't showing up

  • Close your browser completely and reopen it
  • Try using an incognito/private browsing window
  • Clear your browser's cookies and cache
  • If the problem persists, you may need to re-register your browser

I didn't receive my MFA push notification

  • Check that your phone has internet connectivity
  • Try using "Enter a code instead" and manually enter the code from your authenticator app

I'm off-campus and having trouble signing in

  • Make sure you're not on public/hotel Wi-Fi that blocks authentication
  • Try using your phone's hotspot instead
  • Some applications may require VPN access when off-campus

The page keeps refreshing or won't load

  • Clear your browser cache and cookies
  • Disable browser extensions temporarily
  • Try a different browser
  • Make sure JavaScript is enabled in your browser

I need to update my MFA device

  • Sign in to Okta successfully on your current device
