Canvas - How do I use SpeedGrader?

SpeedGrader makes it easy to evaluate individual student assignments and group assignments quickly. In SpeedGrader, all values for an assignment are loaded and saved in the browser, including student submission data, any grades (including original grades for resubmitted assignments), rubrics, and comments.

Tips and Tricks

  • By default, the SpeedGrader student list arranges student names alphabetically by last name. For easier grading, you can sort the student list by the date they submitted the assignment or by submission status.
  • If you want to grade assignments without viewing student submission details, you can hide student names in SpeedGrader for anonymous grading.
  • In addition to file uploads such as .docx and .pdfs, you can have students submit text entrywebsite URLs, or media recordings that can be graded in SpeedGrader.
  • If you use the Google Chrome web browser to access Canvas, you can use Chrome's speech recognition feature to leave text comments on student assignments in the SpeedGrader.
  • Fudge points allow you to manually add or remove points from a student's overall quiz score. This feature is only available in SpeedGrader.
