Canvas - How do I create a sandbox course?

If an instructor would like a course to store content, or have a place to practice they can create a sandbox course. The basic steps are to login to Canvas, locate the Help icon and Create a Sandbox Course in the list. (Canvas > Help > Create a Sandbox Course)

  1. Click the Help button at the bottom of the Global Navigation on the left.
  2. Click Create a Sandbox Course.
  3. Enter Course Name, Course Code, and Select Department from drop-down menu.
  4. Click the Create Course.
  5. Click Let's Go! to start adding content.

Tips

  • If you are getting any errors while trying to create a sandbox course, try using a different browser (updated Chrome is recommended). 
  • Some newer instructors may have trouble finding this option if they have not been added in the Teacher role to a course. Please contact canvas@uwlax.edu for assistance.
