Okta — Add or Remove Security Methods

Instructions for adding, setting up, or removing Okta security methods and devices from your UWL account, including step-by-step guidance for setting up a YubiKey or biometric authenticator on macOS, iOS, and Windows.

Set Up a New Device

Choose your device type for step-by-step setup instructions:

Add or Remove a Security Method

Use these steps to add a new device, set up an additional security method, or remove an existing device from your Okta account.

  1. In a browser on a computer, go to UWL MyApps (opens in new tab).

  2. Enter your NetID or email address, then your password, and click Next.

  3. Click your name in the upper right corner, then click Settings.

  4. Find the Security Method you want to manage and click Set up or Set up another to add a device, or Remove to delete one.

  5. Enter your password and click Verify.

  6. Approve the two-factor request on your existing device, then follow the steps for your chosen security method below.

Security Key (YubiKey) or Biometric Authenticator — macOS and iOS

  1. Click Set up next to Security Key or Biometric Authenticator.

  2. Click Set up on the confirmation screen.

  3. Choose Touch ID for biometric authentication, or click Other Options if you are setting up a YubiKey.

  4. If setting up a YubiKey, choose Security Key and click Continue.

  5. Connect your YubiKey:

    • NFC: Place the YubiKey near the top of your device.
    • USB: Insert the YubiKey and gently press the gold surface.

Your device has been added to your account.

Note: macOS and iOS do not require a PIN for a YubiKey. If you need to change your PIN later, see Okta — YubiKey PIN (Change or Reset) (opens in new tab).

Security Key (YubiKey) or Biometric Authenticator — Windows

  1. Click Set up next to Security Key or Biometric Authenticator.

  2. Click Set up on the confirmation screen.

  3. Click OK on the Windows Security prompt.

  4. Click OK to continue setup.

  5. Select Windows Hello or external security key.

  6. Insert your YubiKey when prompted and click Continue.

  7. Enter a PIN, verify it, and click OK. This PIN will be required every time you authenticate with the YubiKey.

  8. When prompted, gently press the gold surface on the YubiKey.

Your device has been added to your account.

Note: Windows requires a PIN the first time you connect a YubiKey. Once set, you will be prompted for this PIN every time you authenticate with the YubiKey on any device. If you need to change your PIN, see Okta — YubiKey PIN (Change or Reset) (opens in new tab).
