How to add to your course

There are a couple different ways these integrations may be used in Canvas. They can either be added to the course navigation, added directly in modules or added through the Rich Content Editor. If you have any questions about how you can add these to your course, please contact CATL.
*Khan Academy & Quizlet need to be added through Settings > Apps > +Add App

Course Navigation

  1. Go into your course and select Settings
  2. Select the Navigation tab.
  3. The top list is the tools already enabled in your course, the bottom is tools available to be enabled.
  4. Drag the tool from the bottom list to the top and select save
Canvas has a fixed navigation display, so you will not be able to organize that list.
Module

  1. Log into Canvas and navigate to your course.
  2. Add a Module to your content by selecting + Module.
  3. Click the + button in the module you just created.
  4. Select External Tool from the Add Item drop-down.
  5. Scroll to find your tool
  6. After clicking on the tool you may need to select a specific assignment or link.
  7. Click Add Item.

Rich Content Editor

When you are editing instructions, pages, discussions, etc; some tools can be linked or embedded along with your content. Check out the KB on how to use the rich content editor: https://kb.uwlax.edu/98719.

Tips & Tricks

  • If there is a tool you would like to add to your course, but don't see it on the above list, check for additionally approved integrations here: https://www.wisconsin.edu/dle/external-application-integration-requests/.
  • If there is link from a website you would like to be quick to access, use the Redirect Tool to add the URL to your course navigation (Settings>Apps> +Add App).

24/7/365 Canvas Support is available through the help icon in Canvas, by calling the phone support for faculty, staff and students or email us directly at canvas@uwlax.edu.
